Welcome Drink location

The Algarve Ciência Viva Centre is located next to Faro Docks in the complex of the old Faro Power Station, built in 1909, and operated as such between 1916 and 1957. In 1962, the Faro Municipal Fire Brigade moved in, where they remained until 1993. In 1997 the building was restored and in August of the same year it became the country’s first Living Science Centre, opening its doors on 3 August 1997.

The purpose of the Centre is to disseminate science and technology by promoting actions to develop scientific and technological culture among the population, especially the youth community.

The private non-profit association Centro Ciência Viva do Algarve was registered on 11th March 1998 by its founding members: the Foundation for Science and Technology, the University of the Algarve, Faro City Council, the Algarve Region Coordination Commission, the Algarve Regional Directorate of Education, and the Association of Science and Technology for Development.
